NATIONAL ACCREDITATION BOARD SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDES 2018 PERFORMANCE CONTRACT NEGOTIATION WITH GOVERNMENT

The 2018 Performance Contract Negotiation between the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) and Government of Ghana was successfully concluded at the State Enterprises Commission (SEC). The exercise which is facilitated by the Commission came off on February 18, 2018 at its boardroom.

In attendance was the Director General of the Ghana Standards Authority, Professor Alex Dodoo, Iddris Abdulai, a board member, and Madam Docea Quashie-Asiedu, Director for Planning. The government’s side was represented by Mr. Michael Opoku and Grace Lilian Tawiah both from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and Rahinatu Abdul-Rahman representing the Ministry of Finance.

Alhaj Abdul-Samed Abubakar, Executive Director for Business Development Services at the Commission chaired the programme with Ing. John Kwesi Mensah, Acting Executive Director for the Commission’s department responsible for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, facilitating the process.

After presenting an overview of the Authority’s past performance in the 2017 operating year, Professor Dodoo gave highlights of some of their past initiatives and also gave some of the projects the Authority intends to embark on in the 2018 operating year. One key area he spoke about was the urgent need to implement the standardization of some key commodities that have economic effect. These, he said will go a long way to improving on the lives of the citizens if implemented, as it will translate into economic benefit for the nation at large.

The Director General also touched on the cordial relationship between the Ghana Standards Authority, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Food & Drugs Authority who happen to be other government agencies tasked with similar responsibilities.

Presenting the budget for the 2018 operating year, Madam Docea Quashi-Asiedu gave highlights of the budget and how the authority intends to cater for them financially.

Also participating in the exercise for the SEC team were Mr. Justice Abeeku Newton-Offei (Presidential Staffer at the Office of The President), Mr. David Quaye Annang (Acting Chief of Administration), Mr. Joojo Ghansah (Executive Director for Business Advisory Services department), Kojo Ampofo Agyapong (Consultant), John Quarshie (Chief Chief Consultant), Ben Ansu-Adjei (Senior Consultant at the Business Advisory Services department), Benjamin Tetteh Ozor (Senior Consultant at the Performance Monitoring and Evaluation department), Grace B-Korang (Senior Admin Officer, Business Development Services department) and Daniel Kudzawu-D’Pherdd (Senior Consultant).

Though the Ghana Standards Authority is a subvented Agency of the Government of Ghana, it will be part of the SOEs that will participate in the upcoming 2018 Performance Contract Signing which is slated for April 10, 2018, and will have the President of The Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the Special Guest of Honor.
