The Ministry of Public Enterprises (MPE) has launched the Public Enterprises League Table (PELT) Awards.

The award, which was a promise made by the MPE minister, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe is to engender positive competition amongst SOEs, JVCs and Other State Entities.

At a short press launch at the Castle in Osu, the Chief Director for the Ministry, Madam Christina Edmund, welcomed invitees particularly the media and underscored the importance of the awards at repositioning Specified Entities (SE). She praised the awards committee for a thorough job done.

The Director-General of State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Amb. Edward Boateng was happy about the awards and shared his delight about the use of SIGA’s contract negotiation as the base document for the awards.

“It is refreshing to note that SIGA’s performance contract and evaluation framework has been selected as the foundation and the base methodology for the creation of the league table and the award scheme. It will complete the performance management system as it provides non-pecuniary incentive to performing Entities and at the same time to encourages non-performing Entities.”

He called on Specified entities to strive to honour their dividends payment obligations to government.

Hon. Joseph Cudjoe on his part said the problems of Specified Entities is over 60 years old and that is why he is working with SIGA, Public Investments and Assets Division (PIAD) under the Ministry of Finance to align the oversight responsibilities.

He praised His Excellency the President Nana Akufo-Addo for his commitment to transforming the public sector. He also touched on the president’s effort at transforming the economy in addition to restructuring the public space to ensure industrialization and corporate growth.

The PELT Awards will go a long way to help resolve some of the challenges confronting SOES, he concluded.
