Prof. Kpessa-Whyte Assumes Office as Director-General Of SIGA

 

Management and staff of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) have welcomed Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte as the Ag. Director-General at a durbar organized on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

The ceremony provided a platform for the Ag. Director-General to outline his vision and priorities and an opportunity for staff to reaffirm their dedication to SIGA’s mandate under his leadership.

In his address, Prof. Kpessa-Whyte expressed his gratitude to staff for the warm reception and emphasized the critical role SIGA plays in promoting good governance in Specified Entities. He entreated staff to take pride in the responsibility entrusted to them to achieve excellence across all Specified Entities. He further pledged to promote collaboration, mutual respect, and professionalism in all aspects of SIGA’s operations.

“It is an honor to join the SIGA at this significant moment in its development. Our collective efforts will focus on strengthening corporate governance, improving operational performance, and driving meaningful transformation across all Specified Entities. As we move forward together, we must continue to safeguard Ghana’s investments, preserve institutional memory, and cultivate strategic partnerships with stakeholders to achieve our mandate. Additionally, we must work to increase public awareness of SIGA’s role and contributions” he noted.

He concluded by expressing confidence the collective capabilities of SIGA’s team to achieve excellence, emphasizing that through collective effort, the Authority is well-positioned to become a leading institution in Ghana.

Madam Alexandra Totoe, General Manager, Finance and Administration in her closing remarks assured the Director-General of the full cooperation and commitment of staff to advance SIGA’s mandate and ensure its sustained success.

About Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte

Professor Kpessa-Whyte is a distinguished academic and governance expert with specialization in institutional design and public policy. He is an Associate Professor of Public Policy and Governance at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, Legon, and holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Politics and Public Policy from McMaster University, Canada. He also has a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Ghana. His expertise is further enriched by advanced training in social policies, multi-research methods, and educational technologies from global institutions in Brazil, Kenya, and Canada.

His extensive public sector experience includes serving as a policy advisor to the Office of the President of Ghana and as Executive Director of the Ghana National Service Scheme. His consultancy contributions span international and local organizations such as the African Progress Group and the Institute for Democratic Governance. Prof. Kpessa-Whyte’s work has earned him prestigious accolades, including a Post-Doctoral Fellowship from Canada’s SSHRC and recognition as the Most Promising Researcher at the University of Ghana. Prof. Kpessa-Whyte is uniquely positioned to lead SIGA in achieving its mandate and advancing its impact in the Specified Entities.
