Press Release: Minister for Public Enterprises inaugurates new board for SIGA
Accra, 17th January 2022. The Minister for Public Enterprises, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe has sworn in a nine-member board for the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) today at the Castle.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Joseph Cudjoe reminded the new board that the SOEs are to be profitable and pay dividends to the State. He mentioned, “I would like to respectfully remind this board, that ensuring profitability and or efficiency of state entities is our overall goal. Additionally, we must not only ensure state entities are profitable – they must also pay dividend to the government of Ghana. It is only when this is done that the full impact of their value creation and contribution to societal development would be felt by all”.
The Board Chair on behalf of the newly inaugurated board, thanked His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve and pledged the board’s commitment to work tirelessly to support the Management of SIGA realise its objectives. He also asked them to be change agents to ensure that Specified Entities adopt good governance practices to enable them contribute positively toward Ghana’s development.
He said, “to the management of SIGA, the Authority must make sure that Specified Entities follow appropriate corporate governance procedures and comply with all the relevant laws. It is our responsibility to ensure that productivity and economic growth in our State Enterprises improves significantly. Our State Enterprises are expected to contribute almost a third of our GDP but are nowhere near that objective”.
He also thanked the out-gone Director-General, Mr. Stephen Asamoah-Boateng for his energy and hard work and was confident that the arrival of the new Director-General, Ambassador Edward Boateng, who joins SIGA with excellent international, public, private sector and diplomatic experience would take SIGA to the next desired level.
The board is chaired by Mr. Terrence Darko with other members including Ms Yasmin Baba, Mr. Franklin Asafo-Adjaye, Mr. Felix Ntrakwah, Mr. Kow Essuman, Dr. Margaret Atuahene, Mr. Elikem Nutifafa Kuenyehia, Mr. David Collision and Ambassador Edward Boateng Director-General of SIGA.
