SIGA joins call for Support for Internal Auditors

 

 

The Director-General of State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Mr. John Boadu has added his voice to call for support for Internal Auditors.

Mr. John Boadu joined the call at this year’s Ghana Annual National Internal Audit and Governance Conference organised by the Institute of Internal Auditors Ghana, under the theme: “Beyond Boundaries: Navigating New Frontiers,”

Mr. Stephen Asiedu General Manager (Operations) at the State Interests and Governance Authority who spoke on behalf of the Director-General, stressed the importance of changing organizational leadership’s perspective on internal auditors. He urged the leaders of entities to perceive them as essential partners in corporate governance, not just watchdogs, and advocated for their support. He also called for the swift establishment of internal audit committees as per the Internal Audit Agency Act of 2003.

The event which took place at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) auditorium brought together delegates from various sectors to explore latest developments in internal audit and governance.

Mr. Joseph Dakora Zumasigee, President of IIA Ghana, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, emphasizing the importance of the conference in fostering knowledge exchange and professional development within the industry.

Prof. Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson, Vice Chancellor of Methodist University Ghana, delivered the keynote address, providing insights into the evolving landscape of internal audit and governance. He urged practitioners to embrace innovation and prepare themselves to confront emerging challenges.

Other speakers were, Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, the Auditor-General of the Ghana Audit Service, and Dr. Eric Oduro Osae, the Director-General of the Internal Audit Agency. They emphasized the critical role of internal audit and governance in upholding transparency, accountability, and effective risk management across both public and private sectors.

 

As part of the conference, delegates participated in interactive sessions, workshops, and panel discussions led by industry experts aimed at enhancing their understanding and skills in internal audit and governance practices.
