SIGA Pays Courtesy Call on Asantehene

A delegation from the State Interests and Governance Authority has paid a courtesy call on Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

The visit to Manhyia Palace forms part of SIGA’s plan to engage key stakeholders to gather support for its activities and Entities. The delegation led by the Director-General Amb. Edward Boateng used the opportunity to officially introduce SIGA to the Asantehene, update him on its activities so far and to explore areas mutual collaboration.

Ambassador Edward Boateng thanked the Asantehene, first for the advice he gave him when he was appointed Director-General of SIGA and for opening his doors to the delegation. He stated that the advice has proven very valuable and has guided him well in the discharge of his duties.

The Asantehene was also updated on key achievements of SIGA such as performance contract negotiation with the Specified Entities to ensure that they operate profitably and adhere to good corporate governance practices, and our collaborations with key government institutions and regulators such as the Controller and Accountant General, Public Services Commission, Auditor-General and others to ensure effective supervision of Specified Entities.

The Asantehene on his part welcomed the delegation stating that SIGA’s mandate is crucial to the development of the country as State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) are corner stones in development. He advised that for SIGA to be effective in its mandate, it needs to be fully empowered. He charged Government to resource and empower SIGA to be able to raise funding for SOEs as well as review their annual budgets and operational plans.

“SIGA must work hard to make these SOEs profitable and eventually weaned them off government support.”

Ambassador Boateng thanked the Asantehene for the warm reception and his pledge to support the work of SIGA and promised to periodically update the Asantehene on the status of progress, request his advice and support when needed.

On the delegation were: Franklin Asafo Adjei, Board Member, Madam Hollistar Duah-Yentumi, General Manager, Operations, Madam Alexandra Totoe General Manager Finance and Administration, Mr. Kwame Agyemang-Budu.
