SIGA SOLIDARISES WITH PERSONS AFFECTED BY THE AKOSOMBO DAM SPILLAGE

The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) stands in solidarity with the many communities particularly in the Volta Region that have been displaced by the controlled spillage of the Akosombo dam.

Due to a consistent rise in the inflow pattern and water level of the Akosombo reservoir, the Volta River Authority (VRA), an Entity under the oversight of SIGA, began a controlled spillage on September 15, 2023. The VRA notified its stakeholders, including downstream communities, in accordance with its emergency preparedness plan and standard operating procedures.

SIGA, on the other hand, is concerned about the anguish, trauma, and ongoing hardships that people in these communities are experiencing, and stands in unwavering solidarity with everyone affected by the ongoing crisis.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), emergency personnel, and volunteers who have worked tirelessly around the clock to assist these communities in this time of need so far.

We also encourage all Specified Entities to join SIGA and the VRA in any way they can to help with the recovery efforts.
