SIGA welcomes new Director-General and bids farewell to Stephen Asamoah-Boateng
The Management and staff of SIGA, today, welcomed the new Director-General (DG) of SIGA, Ambassador Edward Boateng and bid farewell to the outgone Director-General, Hon. Stephen Asamoah—Boateng at a staff durbar.
Ambassador Boateng whose term of office began on the 18th of December 2021 was appointed by the President to oversee and administer the State’s interests in Specified Entities, to ensure shareholder value, financial sustainability, and good corporate governance.
Speaking at the staff durbar, Ambassador Boateng thanked the president, the vice president, the chief of staff for appointing him to head SIGA. He also thanked the immediate-past Director-General, Stephen Asamoah-Boateng for his exemplary leadership and resolve which culminated in the merger of the then State Enterprises Commission and Divestiture Implementation Committee to form the formidable new Entity called the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) by the Parliamentary Act (Act 990).
Ambassador Boateng giving his remarks, informed the staff that, he believes in teamwork because teamwork yields positive success. He also encouraged the staff to be forthcoming and share whatever ideas they may have in order to collectively develop SIGA. He explained that his success or failure at SIGA depends on the staff because the Authority needs everyone to be diligent and work hard to achieve its mandate.
“I am happy to be here, my success depends on you and in a way my failure also depends on you because even if I fail, we all fail and when I succeed, we do so together” he said.
The immediate-past Director-General, Mr. Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, on his part, recounted the journey towards the establishment of the State Interests and Governance Authority. He enumerated the great strides that the Authority has been able to achieve since its inception. He expressed his delight in the establishment of the Chamber of CEOs and what the Chamber has been able to accomplish during his tenure of office. He thanked the staff for their dedication and commitment to him during his administration.
The management and staff of SIGA presented gifts to the outgone DG as an expression of their appreciation for his service to the Authority. There was also a symbolic handing over of the mantle of SIGA from the outgone DG to the newly appointed one.
Mr. Edward Boateng is the second Director General to head the Authority and comes in with a great wealth of experience and expertise. He is a former Ghanaian diplomat who has served as the 15th Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to the People’s Republic of China and simultaneously to the Republic of Mongolia and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea from June 2017 to November 2020.
Under the administration of the new Director General, SIGA aspires to strengthen its supervisory responsibilities in State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and other authorized Entities within the remit of current Government legislation to drive, efficiency and profitability within Specified Entities by such means advancing the socio-economic development of Ghana.
