State Transport Company will regain its Enviable Tag of Reliability, Affordability and Comfort – says Hon Asamoah-Boateng, The Executive Chairman of State Enterprises Commission
As part of his ongoing working-visits to State-owned Enterprises, the Executive Chairman of State Enterprises Commission, Hon Asamoah-Boateng, today Wednesday, June 28, 2017, was at State Transport Company to introduce himself to the new Managing Director Hon Nana Akomea and his management team.
On arrival at the premises of STC, Hon Asamoah-Boateng and his team were warmly received. The meeting was started with a Christian prayer after which Nana Akomea welcomed The Executive Chairman of SEC. In his open remarks, Nana Akomea expressed his profound gratitude to Hon Asamoah-Boateng for the visit and opened the floor for him to address the STC team.
In his remarks, Hon Asamoah-Boateng gave a brief history of State Enterprises Commission which was established by “PNDC LAW 170”. He expressed worry about how this rather vital State entity has not been assisted to effectively play its critical oversight responsibilities for over forty-five [45] State-owned Enterprises. He therefore gives a brief insight into his vision for this state entity.
To revitalize what Hon Asamoah-Boateng fondly describes as “a sleeping giant”, he intends to put inplace a “mechanism where these State-owned Enterprises can trade amongst themselves”. He cited an example of “instances where Volta River Authority would organize a function and serve drinks and other food items manufactured by a foreign company, when GIHOC Distilleries produces brands with same quality”.
He also hinted of a drive to ensure “valuable assets of these State-owned Enterprises which are currently not being utilized and have left to go to waste are rejuvenated”.
He promised to ensure that “assets like lands are properly demarcated and profitably utilized by way of construction of modern infrastructure to provide conducive working-environment for staff”. He promised to work to ensure “STC recaptures its former glory as the preferred means of travel by way of COMFORT, RELIABILITY and AFFORDABILITY”
On his part, spelt out his plans for STC by way of retooling. He said new fleet of Executive Buses are expected from Brazil, by the end of August this year, to augment the Company’s fleet in order to ably, and efficiently, render quality services to their clients.
As part of his drive to breath fresh air into the Company’s financial viability, “a deal has been signed with some major tertiary and second cycle institutions, for their students to be transported during re-opening and vocation periods, across the country”. He further revealed that “to ably compete on the market, his outfit needs minimum operational buses of 150”.
Hon Asamoah-Boateng and his team were later giving a familiarization tour of various departments of STC.Included in his team were Mr. Justice Abeeku Newton-Offei, a Presidential Staffer, Mr. John Kwesi Mensah, Ag Executive Dir., Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Benjamin Tetteh Ozor, A Senior Consultant, Performance, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Nixon Noah, ICT Officer and Mr. Daniel Kudzawu-D’Pherdd, ICT.
