SIGA Receives US$5 Million Dividend Cheque from Perseus Mining (Ghana) Ltd.

The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) has received a symbolic dividend cheque from Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited, marking the company’s first-ever payment to the Government of Ghana. The brief ceremony was held at SIGA’s office on Tuesday, May 7, 2025.

Perseus declared a total dividend of Fifty Million United States Dollars (US$50 million) for the 2024 financial year. The Government of Ghana, which holds a 10% carried interest through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, received Five Million United States Dollars (US$5 million) —equivalent to Seventy Three Million, Five Hundred Thousand Ghana cedis (GHS73.5 million Ghana cedis).

Mad. Millicent Atuguba, Ag. General Manager of Operations at SIGA received the cheque on behalf of the Ag Director-General of SIGA, Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte. 

In a statement read on behalf of SIGA, Ms. Atuguba commended Perseus for its sound governance. She noted; 

“Today’s presentation marks a significant milestone not only for Perseus but for our country’s collective efforts to ensure returns on state equity investments. This move comes at a crucial time when government is pursuing the Reset Agenda to strengthen governance, transparency, and value creation from all Specified Entities” she stated.

Mad. Atuguba further acknowledged the operational challenges facing Perseus and gave the assurance that SIGA is committed to engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure a more collaborative approach to sustainability.

The group Board Chairman of Perseus Minning Mr. Richard Mennel expressed the company’s commitment to national development through responsible operations. He added; 

“This dividend reflects our long-standing commitment to doing business the right way. 

We are pleased to contribute to Ghana’s growth and look forward to continued collaboration with SIGA and other stakeholders”

Present at the ceremony were the local Board Chairman of Perseus Ghana Limited Nana Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, the Group Managing Director Mr. Jeff Quartermaine, the Group Chief Finance Officer Ms. Lee-Anne de Bruin, and the Management of SIGA.
