The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) met with management of Intercity STC Coaches Limited and Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) on May 28, 2025, to explore solutions to challenges in the public transport sector and identify new revenue opportunities.
The Director-General of SIGA, Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, who chaired the engagement, commended the leadership of both entities for their swift response to his invitation. He reiterated SIGA’s commitment to working closely with the transport sector to ensure its strategic importance is fully harnessed for national development.
“Our responsibility is to support you in delivering quality service to the people of Ghana. We believe that with the right interventions, Intercity STC and Metro Mass Transit can become highly efficient, sustainable, and the transport service of choice across the country,” said Prof. Kpessa-Whyte.
In attendance were Mr. Kale Cesar Esq, Managing Director of Metro Mass Transit Limited, and Mr. Ligbi Alhassan, Managing Director of Intercity STC Coaches Limited. Both expressed gratitude to SIGA for initiating the engagement. They took the opportunity to share current operational realities, highlighting constraints such as aging fleets, inadequate funding, and infrastructure gaps, and proposed innovative solutions to improve efficiency and service delivery.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with SIGA requesting a situational report from both entities. The report is expected to outline the current status of operations, key challenges, and practical recommendations for improvement. The report will enable SIGA to escalate urgent matters to the Ministry of Finance and other relevant government bodies for timely intervention.
