Ghana Energy Awards Team Calls on SIGA to Deepen Strategic Collaboration

SIGA Ghana Energy Awards

On Tuesday, June 2nd, 2025, the Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) team paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, at the Authority’s office premises in Accra.

The visit formed part of broader stakeholder engagement efforts by representatives of the awards scheme ahead of the official launch of the 9th edition of the Ghana Energy Awards. The meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to explore deeper collaboration in promoting excellence, innovation, and sustainability in Ghana’s energy sector.

Prof. Kpessa-Whyte welcomed the team and acknowledged the Ghana Energy Awards as a laudable initiative that aligns with SIGA’s mission of enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Specified Entities. He commended the team for their consistency and vision over the past eight years and reaffirmed SIGA’s openness to collaborate in ways that advance national development priorities.

During the discussions, the visiting team expressed their desire for SIGA to play a more prominent and strategic role in this year’s edition of the awards, especially given the Authority’s oversight responsibility for several key entities within the energy value chain. They noted that SIGA’s participation would help promote a culture of performance, accountability, and sector-wide dialogue around best practices and future-facing solutions.

Key topics included the potential of the Awards to serve not just as a recognition platform, but as a tool to highlight systemic gaps, encourage public-private partnerships, and attract critical investment into the energy sector, particularly as Ghana advances its green transition agenda.

The 9th Ghana Energy Awards is expected to be launched in the coming weeks and will continue its mission of celebrating outstanding achievements and spotlighting transformative efforts within Ghana’s energy sector. SIGA looks forward to supporting initiatives that align with its mandate of strengthening corporate governance, improving performance, and delivering value for the Ghanaian people.
