The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) hosted a meeting with the leadership of the Boardroom Governance Summit and Eunomia Risk Advisory at its office in Accra on Wednesday, 25th June 2025. The meeting focused on strengthening governance frameworks across State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) and advancing the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for public sector transformation.

President and Founder of Eunomia Risk Advisory Inc., Tiffany A. Archer, Esq., emphasized the urgent need to leverage technology to improve data accuracy and enable real-time monitoring of governance practices in SOEs. She further emphasized the importance of establishing a robust governance structure, one that includes accountability mechanisms, such as legal sanctions and criminal prosecution, for non-compliance.

Renowned governance expert and Convener of the Boardroom Governance Summit, Professor Douglas Boateng, stated that “the time to reset is now, with governance at the heart of this reset agenda,” adding that his vision for the partnership between the Summit and SIGA is to position SIGA as a hub for public sector transformation in the ECOWAS region. He also revealed that the theme for this year’s Summit will be “The Role of the Chairman“.

Madam Millicent Atuguba, the Acting General Manager of Operations at SIGA, reiterated the need for strong and effective governance at the board level. She emphasized that “boardroom governance is critical to the development of our SOEs,” and called for strengthened collaboration between SIGA and the Boardroom Governance Summit to drive sustainable reforms.

Mr. Eric Opoku, Head of Governance, Risk, and Compliance at SIGA, emphasized that “governance is non-negotiable.” He noted that the country’s culture of unchecked sympathy and the absence of strict consequences for misconduct have fostered a climate of impunity. “We may have the laws, but the mindset and enforcement culture must evolve,” he remarked during the meeting.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen the partnership between SIGA and the Boardroom Governance Summit.
