SIGA Empowers Staff to Champion ESG Principles

SIGA ESG Training

As part of efforts to deepen institutional knowledge on sustainability, the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), in partnership with the Association of African Sustainability Practitioners (AASuP), held a two-hour training session on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles on Friday, 27th June 2025.

The training was designed to enhance staff’s technical understanding of ESG and sustainability-related topics. It aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge required to provide sound, informed recommendations on ESG issues in line with SIGA’s oversight mandate.

Delivering the session was Mr. Kwadwo Kwakye Gyan of AASuP, who doubles as the Head of Risk at the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF). He provided a comprehensive overview of ESG concepts, their relevance in public sector governance, and the growing global shift toward sustainability-driven strategies. His presentation was followed by an interactive Q&A session, during which staff members posed insightful questions and shared perspectives, further deepening the learning experience.

Also present was Mr. Humphrey Tetteh, President of AASuP, who spoke passionately about the increasing importance of ESG in today’s world and the emerging career opportunities in the field. He encouraged staff to consider the broader impact of ESG frameworks on national development and institutional accountability.

The session was brought to a close by Mr. James Korsah-Brown, Acting Head of SIGA’s Planning Policy Strategy and Research (PPSR) Division. In his remarks, he expressed appreciation to the facilitators for their time and insights, and emphasized the critical role of ESG knowledge in empowering SIGA staff to drive the sustainable transformation of Specified Entities.

The training forms part of SIGA’s broader goal of embedding sustainable practices within the entities under its oversight and marks the first step toward cultivating ESG ambassadors across all Divisions of the Authority.
