The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) has called on the Bui Power Authority (BPA) to strengthen efficiency, enhance profitability, and commence dividend payments to the Government of Ghana by the close of the 2025 financial year.

Madam Millicent Atuguba, General Manager of Operations at SIGA, who represented the Director-General at Bui Power Authority’s 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Accra, commended BPA for maintaining profitability despite liquidity challenges but stressed the need for stronger financial contributions.

“Our expectation of Bui Power Authority is straightforward: to be efficient, profitable, and to pay dividends to the Government of Ghana. By the close of the 2025 financial year, we look forward to BPA demonstrating its commitment by paying a dividend for the first time,” she stated.

She further urged strict compliance with the Public Financial Management Act, the SIGA Act, and other statutory obligations, adding that accountability and strong corporate governance must remain non-negotiable.

Hon. Richard Gyan-Mensah ,the Deputy Minister of Energy and Green Transition, also lauded BPA’s renewable initiatives while encouraging diversification beyond solar into mini-hydro, wind, and waste-to-energy to support Ghana’s green transition.

At the AGM, Board Chairperson, Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, in a statement delivered on his behalf board member, Mr. Yao Gomado, attributed BPA’s strong financial performance to prudent cost management and operational efficiency.

The meeting was attended by BPA’s Board and management, officials of SIGA, government representatives, and other key stakeholders in the energy sector. BPA reported revenues of $139.7 million in 2024 and total power generation of 1,352 gigawatt-hours, while advancing renewable projects including a 100MWp Solar PV plant with complementary battery storage.
