SIGA Participates in 2025 National Boardroom Governance Summit

The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) on Tuesday, 14th October 2025, joined distinguished leaders and governance professionals at the second edition of the National Boardroom Governance Summit, held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. The Authority was represented by its Board Chair, Mrs. Nancy Dakwa Ampofo; Director-General, Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte; Acting General Manager of Finance, Mr. Samuel Obeng Ankomah; and Acting Head of Governance, Risk and Compliance, Mr. Joseph Sarpong.

Building on the the inaugural 2024 edition, this year’s event, convened by Prof. Douglas Boateng, brought together CEOs, board chairs, directors, and governance experts from Ghana and beyond to deliberate on the theme “Daring to be Different: The Role of the Chairperson in Effective Boardroom Governance.” The theme highlighted the importance of bold and innovative leadership in strengthening governance and driving transformation within institutions.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Boateng explained that the summit was designed to help leaders translate governance principles into measurable value, fostering accountability and long-term sustainability across both public and private sector institutions.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, called on boards of public and private institutions to adopt generational and ethical governance models to safeguard national projects from political interference. He cautioned that weak boardroom practices could lead to reputational damage, legal challenges, and financial instability.

“When boardrooms think generationally, the present becomes the foundation, not the finish line. We must, however, acknowledge the realities before us. Boards today operate in an environment of heightened public scrutiny, fast-changing markets, and tightened regulations,” Mr. Debrah noted. He reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening accountability and transparency through initiatives such as the Reset Agenda and the Government Accountability Series, which promote public reporting and ministerial accountability.

The summit featured engaging panel discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions that offered actionable insights on accountability, transparency, and leadership, which are core principles aligned with SIGA’s governance mandate.

SIGA’s participation reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to promoting sound corporate governance, fostering ethical leadership, and strengthening the performance of Specified Entities in support of national development goals.
