SIGA Leads High-Powered Energy Sector Delegation to France

SIGA Energy Leads Delegation to France

The State Interests and Governance Authority(SIGA) is leading a high-powered delegation to France for an energy sector tour designed to strengthen knowledge exchange and model innovative solutions to Ghana’s energy sector. The delegation, comprising key stakeholders from the energy sector, will engage with French counterparts to leverage expertise and experience in addressing energy challenges.

Led by Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, Director-General of SIGA, the team includes senior officials from the Volta River Authority (VRA), Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO), Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), the Energy Commission, and members of relevant Parliamentary committees. The study tour is funded by the French Development Agency (AFD), underscoring the strong partnership between France and Ghana in the energy sector.

Prof. Michael Kpessa-Whyte, Director-General of SIGA: remarked at the opening session: “This energy sector tour to France, sponsored by the French Development Agency, is a significant step towards bridging the knowledge gap and harnessing best practices in the energy sector. We are confident that our interactions with French energy experts will yield valuable insights and innovative solutions to drive Ghana’s energy sector transformation. We look forward to sharing our experiences and learning from the French expertise.”

The tour will focus on exploring France’s energy landscape, including its renewable energy sector, grid management, and energy efficiency initiatives. The delegation will engage with French energy companies, government officials, and industry experts to gain a deeper understanding of the country’s energy policies, technologies, and innovations. Key areas of focus:

  • Renewable Energy: Exploring France’s experiences in solar, wind, and other renewable
energy sources to increase Ghana’s renewable energy capacity.
  • Energy Efficiency: Learning from France’s best practices in energy efficiency and reduction
    of energy losses.
  • Grid Management: Understanding France’s grid management systems and technologies to
improve Ghana’s grid stability and reliability.

This initiative aligns with SIGA’s efforts to promote knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation in Ghana’s energy sector. The outcomes of this tour are expected to inform policy decisions, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to Ghana’s energy sector development.
