SIGA Hosts Gambian Delegation for Week-Long Study Tour

The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) recently welcomed a technical delegation from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs (MoFEA) of the Republic of Gambia for an immersive study tour and knowledge-sharing engagement centred on Ghana’s model for managing state interests and strengthening public sector accountability. The study tour ran from 15th to 21st March and offered the Gambian officials a firsthand look at how Ghana’s oversight architecture functions in practice.

The week’s engagements opened on 16th March with a formal technical session at SIGA’s premises, hosted by Director-General Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte. Senior officials from across the Authority led presentations and discussions on SIGA’s governance mandate, accountability frameworks, and the structures underpinning its oversight of Specified Entities (SEs). The Gambian delegation, led by Director Amie Khan, engaged actively throughout, raising questions and exchanging perspectives on the governance approaches of both countries. The session offered a thorough introduction to how SIGA fulfils its role as a central oversight body and set the tone for the engagements that followed.

Over the course of the week, the delegation visited a select number of SEs, including Ghana Publishing Company, TDC Ghana Limited, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), and the Volta River Authority (VRA) at Akosombo. These visits were designed to give the delegation direct exposure to how individual entities operate and how their activities connect to SIGA’s broader oversight and governance mandate.

The delegation was also in attendance at two of SIGA’s flagship institutional events during the period: the Annual Stakeholder Engagement and the Public Enterprises League Table (PELT) awards ceremony, providing further context on how SIGA publicly accounts for the performance of entities under its watch.

The Gambian delegation described the overall experience as eye-opening and insightful, noting the valuable lessons drawn from comparing the governance structures of both nations.
