SIGA Participates in Historic King’s Baton Relay

The State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) proudly joined the King’s Baton Relay 2025, as the Commonwealth Games’ enduring symbol of unity and resilience began its tour of Ghana on October 3, 2025. The Relay commenced at the Flagstaff House, in a ceremony that launched its six-day journey across the nation.

Following the presidential handover, the Baton was carried through the streets of Accra in a vibrant float that drew wide public attention. SIGA had its moment of honour when Madam Millicent Atuguba, Acting General Manager of Operations, proudly served as a Baton bearer on behalf of the Authority. Her role symbolised SIGA’s dedication to national pride and Ghana’s place within the wider Commonwealth family.

The float also featured several distinguished personalities, including Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Korle Klottey, and Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director-General of the National Sports Authority, who joined the celebrations along Accra’s principal streets.

As the Relay continues its journey across Ghana, it will be featured in a number of symbolic activities designed to engage communities and inspire participation. Highlights include visits to selected schools to connect with the youth, a fitness walk from Peduase Lodge to Aburi Gardens to promote wellness, and a cultural stop at Aburi, where the Baton will be formally presented to the Adontenhene of Akuapem, Nana Djan Kwasi II.

Since its inception in 1958, the King’s Baton Relay has become one of the most cherished traditions of the Commonwealth Games. The Baton, which carries a special message from the Head of the Commonwealth, travels through all member states before its final destination. The Baton’s journey through Ghana is part of the global preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, where the message will be read during the opening ceremony to signify unity across nations.
